Article: By FGN Empress VII, XS News Writer
It’s not very often that I get to interview a friend on an amazing achievement. But today as part of the News Team I was Honored with that very privilege. Since I first joined the community I got to know XGN Orion 7XS and now he’s been promoted to Vice President of Xiled Gaming Network. Jumping on this opportunity I sat down with him and got his thoughts on his prestigious achievement.
How long have you been in XS?
A: “I joined Xiled Gaming Network back in 2014 and I’ve been in XS since its conception.”
What made you decide to rank up?
A: “Originally, I had no interest in it. I only learned, over time, the ambition and wish to rank up for the sake of bettering my community and contributing to its growth. It was my Major and recruiter (XGN JarJarBinks), at the time, that asked if I wanted to rank up and talked me into it.”
What’s the hardest thing about being the rank you are?
A: “Restraint. While I’m on the Board, I have to realize that I’ve got to give everyone else a chance to shine and do their work. As much as, sometimes, I want to step in and handle a situation to be done with it, I often find that I’ve got to be more patient and use situations as learning opportunities for our officers that are ranking up.”
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced?
A: “A lot of it has been conquering my own fears. I used to be morbidly afraid of speaking in front of anyone, let alone dozens of people in meetings every week, but I’ve learned to become comfortable with it. At once, I was unsure about joking around with people for fear that I’d scare people away, but I’ve learned to be comfortable with those I know and I’ve truly found a niche where I belong.”
What do you want others to know about you?
A: “That’s an interesting question. I’m a simple person. Ask nearly anything (within reason) and I’m happy to oblige you an answer. I’m very ‘open book’ based and I love to give advice. If I would want anyone to know anything about me is that I genuinely care. If you’re a friend, you’re a friend for life or until you decide to break that. I’ve fought with some of my closest friends, but in the end, I never give up on them. They give up on me. I’m loyal to a fault. I don’t sneak around behind anyone’s back and even those I don’t often get along with know I’ll be civil and respectful to them nonetheless.”
As time progresses what are your plans to help XS?
A: “When I became a Director, I was asked to pick a department to help and pick a goal. I chose Media and I stated, quite firmly, that I wanted to be ‘The Voice’ of XGN. I wanted to stream events and become known as THE person to watch for anything to do with XGN tournaments. I still hold very true to that and it’s still very much at the forefront of my hopes. I want to get our name out there. I want to draw people into the community based on the good we do and the fun we have together.”
Do you have any reservations about your new rank?
A: “Have you seen which shoes I’m filling? Of course I do! I’m terrified! Not to the point that I’m petrified by my own horror, but to the point that I know that, to make a mark, I’m going to have to show up one of the finest officers that our community has, or will likely ever, seen or see again. For the vast majority of my time, I’ve felt almost like I’ve lived in Hell5 shadow. I don’t mean that in a bad way, however. He taught me a lot, but now I’ve got to stand on my own and show the entirety of XS who I really am and what I have to offer.”
What advice do you have for others as they continue to grow within each of the communities?
A: “Advice is a tough point for me. I’ve got a lot to say given even half the chance, but if anything comes to mind, it’d be to be unafraid of diversity. It’s okay to be different and it’s okay to have members in your squads and divisions that don’t act, speak, or game the same way you do. The best way to build a healthy squad is to build one free of cliques where any member can find a home. The very best way to do that is to have dozens of different homes available to them where they can easily find their own niche. Different games, play styles, and even skill levels will always be embraced as far as I’m concerned.”
With your promotion what would you like our members to know about what it takes to become leaders?
A: “There is no one thing I can tell you that would make you a perfect candidate to be a leader. You can’t just have anyone talent or ability. Will it open the door? Absolutely. The only way you’re walking through it, however, is by learning. Often that requires doing the one thing no one wants to admit to and everyone dreads: accepting the fact that you have weaknesses and, furthermore, confronting them. I’ve had my fair share of hurtles to cross before I was even close to ready for any of my earlier positions, much less the title I’m currently holding. The only way you become a true leader is by learning to accept and grow from your failures; they’re only a lesson, not a hindrance.”
Are there any last thoughts or advice you’d like to add for our members?
A: “I’ve been through a lot of leaders I liked and many, many, many more that I did not. In fact, if it wasn’t for those leaders I didn’t like, I wouldn’t be here. I learned to grow from my anger and I channeled it. I took a negative emotion and used it to create something positive. I would urge anyone having difficulties with their time to give it time and patience. If you don’t like something? Rank up until you’re in the position to change it. If you want to see something added? Learn, grow, and get to the point you can create something of your own. Xiled Gaming Network and Xiled Syndicate is home to hundreds of different viewpoints, ways of thought, and styles of leadership. We offer a home to anyone seeking family and, no matter how strange you may think you are, there is always a place where you can feel a sense of belonging. We wouldn’t be able to offer that if we weren’t welcoming to new ideas and methodologies. So if you want to be a part of that? Take it. Claim it. Reach for it and make it your own.”
That being said, with words of wisdom from XGN Orion 7XS we want to congratulate him on his promotion and hope to see where he goes in the future. On behalf of myself, Xiled Syndicate, XGN, and the News Team congratulations to you sir. We hope to see more from you in the future. Thank you for all you do, have done and are doing. Good luck and until next time adios.
