MICROSOFT ACQUIRES BETHESDA PARENT IN MASSIVE DEAL

    Article By: Jessi 7XS

If you don’t know, you’re about to know. In one of the largest deals in the gaming world, Microsoft has acquired ZeniMax Media, the holding company that houses Bethesda. Yes, this means, Microsoft now owns Bethesda Softworks, Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios.

Some of the greatest franchises have come from the minds of Bethesda, such as; The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Wolenstein, DOOM, Dishonored, Prey, Quake, Starfield, Rage, Brink, Dishonored, and The Evil Within. Microsoft has clearly worked well with Bethesda in the past, going so far as to help bring The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind to the console for the first time ever on the original Xbox.

So what was the price tag on this deal. Hold onto your butts, as the acquisition cost $7.5 BILLION. There were already two games [Deathloop & GhostWire: Tokyo] announced from Bethesda as to be released exclusively on PlayStation 5, Microsoft plans on honoring this as both games are to be released sometime in 2021. Plans are also to continue to completely support The Elder Scrolls: Online as it stands on their current platforms. However, when it comes to games that are in production and not yet announced, they will release on Xbox. As for other non-Xbox platforms, they will be released on a “case-by-case” basis.

The great news is that Xbox plans to bring Bethesda’s iconic franchises to Xbox Game Pass for console and PC. It remains to be announced which franchises exactly will hit Game Pass, but I mean to speculate, if Fallout is not one of those series….I’m gonna have to have some words with Xbox.

While we wait for more news on what is to come from the purchase of Bethesda, we can only hope that things will continue to grow for Xbox. Alongside the upcoming release of two brand new consoles, this is great news.
